Couponing at CVS
In 2014, while preparing to move to Atlanta, GA for a couple years for school, I discovered the art of couponing. Everybody likes a good deal and I discovered that I could get really good ones with the CVS Extracare Bucks program.
The short explanation is that each week they have items that essentially give you cash back, called extracare bucks. Those bucks can be used on your next transaction. (CVS is accustomed to customers doing several transactions in order to use the extracare bucks immediately if desired.) They also place quite a few coupons in their app such as $2 off a specific product and/or $5 off a total purchase amount. In addition, they accept printed coupons. So, when you stack these things you can really get some great deals. And you can use extrabucks on anything in the store except prescriptions.
I also have the Carepass. It is $5 a month, but you get $10 in extracare bucks monthly and 20% off all CVS brand products. It’s definitely worth it as it more than pays for itself with the extracare bucks alone.
Below is a picture of a recent purchase:
2 Packs of Pampers Easy Ups, 2 Packs of Huggies Pull-Ups, CVS Infant Rub, and CVS Saline Mist.
- Total before coupons and extracare bucks: $70.41
- Total saved: $52.41
I had the following coupons
- $10 Carepass Extracare bucks
- $10 Extracare Bucks from previous purchase
- $8 off $40 in Baby Care Products
- $5 coupon for fulfilling 10 prescriptions
- 20% off all CVS brand products because I have the Carepass
- $2 off Huggies Pull-ups Coupon
- $2 off off Any Huggies Coupon
Total Spent Out of Pocket: $18.00
Extracare Bucks Received: $10.00
So essentially I spent $8.00 on these 6 items.
