Acclimating to Elevation (Part 1)
The Lord is preparing many of us to go to a new place in him. This might be a new place of blessing or perhaps the conditions of our life is about to change. Whatever the place or condition, it will almost certainly require some things of you. More faithfulness, more consistency, more prayer, more time in the Word of God, more accountability, more sacrifice, more of you! Now, when we start talking about giving God more of us and going to a new place in Him, that can often include reassessing our life…the people, places, and things in it and determining what needs to be let go.
Today we’re going to talk about the people who can’t go to the next place with you because the truth is that everybody can’t go.
Exodus 19
As you prepare for this new place in Christ, one of the first things you may need to do is:
Adjust your Community for Elevation
- Set your boundaries. God did not set the boundary, but told Moses to do it. Your boundaries are yours to set and no one else’s. Set them! (Verse 12)
- Accept the fact that there are some people who can’t go with you. God told Moses to tell the people not to try and go u the mountain because they will die. (Verse 12)
- Be clear and consistent with your boundaries. People will try to see if they can cross it. And each time they do you must be consistent in refusing to accept others crossing the boundaries that you have set. God knew that which is why he told Moses the same thing three times. (Verse 12, 21, 24)
- There are people who will be able to go with you, but they may not be who you expect. It’s comforting to know that God has ordained those he wants to come with or continue with us as the conditions of our life changes. One important thing to note is that whoever is allowed will not be based on title, rank, popularity, economic status, political affiliation, etc. In this verse we see where there were some priests who couldn’t go. So, it’s important that we are discerning and seeking the Lord regarding who he has ordained to go with us. (Verse 24) (In part three we will look at the graceful release of those who can’t go.)
Start now preparing for the conditions of your life to change as the Lord begins to elevate you. What boundaries do you need to set? Who do you need to communicate those boundaries to? Are you committed to being clear and consistent with those boundaries? Who is the Lord allowing to go with you and who might you discern the Lord is desiring to distance from your life? Start now doing the work in preparation for elevation!
