Homemade Bread and Butter Pickle Recipe Review
So I decided to try something that certainly falls in the category of things my dad might do and my childhood best friend’s grand mother definitely did. I say that because my dad loved to cook when I was growing up. He would do more than just cook from scratch, but he would also make things like jam or preserves, salsa, etc. Although he never make pickles, my childhood best friends grandmother did and they were delicious! We would eat them with red rind cheese and crackers! To this day it is still one of my favorite snacks! Don’t knock it til you try it.
Anyway, I thought I would try my hand at it and so after scouring the internet for forever…really like 10 minutes…I found what appeared to be the perfect and relatively simple recipe. The hardest part is gathering all the necessary ingredients. The good news is that after you purchase them, you should be able to make several batches of pickles before having to buy more spices. Here’s the recipe I used:

The instructions are very simple to follow and per usual, pictures are included. You’ll see that I have included pictures from my own venture so that you can see the more candid, less polished, view of what the process looks like. You’ll note that I made the mistake of putting the ice directly atop the ice instead of on the towel. I was admittedly reading too fast!
As far as the review is concerned, overall the recipe was wonderful! The flavor and spice is amazing! I will echo what the author said on then original recipe, having fresh cucumbers makes all the difference. Apparently mine were not quite as fresh as I’d hoped as my pickles ended up far from crisp. That being said, again, the flavor is wonderful. For my first time I was still proud of myself and hope to get better with each batch. If you decide to give it a try, comment below and let me know.
